The Spartan Regiment is the largest competitive ensemble offered at Smithfield-Selma High School.  Every fall, this award winning marching band program takes the field in both local and national competitions.  The band also performs at all home football games, as well as in the Selma Railroad Days Parade and the Smithfield and Selma Christmas Parades.

A former student once said “being in the Spartan Regiment means being a part of something bigger than yourself.”  As another wise man said, “the greatest pride of all comes from being a part of something you could never do alone.”  For the students in the Spartan Regiment, marching band is that pride.  Marching band takes a large number of people working together as a single unit to be successful.  Members in this ensemble learn not only how to march and play their instruments, but they also learn the importance of commitment, teamwork, dedication, and character.  Students learn lessons during their four years in this program that they carry with them for the rest of their lives, and the friendships and memories they make here are things they are not likely to soon forget.
