Winter guard is a relatively new program at Smithfield-Selma. The Smithfield-Selma Winter Guard began in 2008 and has become more successful every year. While many who march in the color guard in the fall also perform with the winter guard, the winter season allows for people from other sections to also audition and potentially perform with the winter guard. The guard is instructed by Jean Coulet DuGard and practices twice a week after school during the winter season. In its incipient year, the winter guard received a gold medal at AIA Championships in the novice class. With initial success comes high expectations and the winter guard will not disappoint.
